Established in 1974, Slater Associates is an award-winning Maryland landscape architecture firm that creates people-oriented spaces for the public, commercial and private sectors as well as government, both state and local. The founder and President, John Slater ‘s experience spans over 41 years with many of those years spent as a Maryland landscape design architect. Slater Associates consists of three registered Columbia, MD landscape architects and one certified LEED AP with extensive knowledge of landscape design and construction, horticulture, and real estate development.

It is our experience that enables us to create successful design solutions through one on one communication, and a thorough understanding of the purpose and vision of each individual client while ensuring the design responds to the site and its surrounding natural and built environments. We create aesthetically beautiful, efficiently planned, and sustainable outdoor spaces that preserve the environment while enhancing the quality of life for everyone who lives, works, and relaxes within them.

We design a wide variety of project types including parks, campus planning and design, community centers, streetscapes, decks, drainage systems, fountains, gazebos, green roofs, memorial gardens, patios, perennial gardens, pergolas, permeable pavement, plazas, pools, rain gardens, roof gardens, screening, shade structures, signage, sports courts, sports fields, cisterns, trails, native plants and water features.

Slater Associates has worked extensively with community associations and neighborhood design boards in Columbia, Maryland, and the Greater Baltimore-Washington areas, and throughout the states of Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and New Jersey.
